How should you split your basic Energy?

Rules basis: the official Pokémon TCG rules and the rulebook, checked on 13 October 2026. No price or deck data is sent.
A clear base before you test the deck
A Fire cost needs a Fire Energy. A Colorless cost accepts any type. The tool turns your coloured needs into whole cards without choosing the total for you.
You can see whether a second type takes too little or too much room in your list. The result is a starting point to check in real games, not a recipe for a winning deck.
How the split is calculated
For each type: symbols of that type ÷ total coloured symbols × Energy cards to split. Whole shares are given out first. The remaining cards go to the largest remainders, in the order shown when there is a tie.
Example: 12 Energy, 6 Fire symbols and 3 Water. Fire is two thirds of the need, so 8 cards. Water is one third, so 4 cards.
The calculation ignores Colorless costs, Retreat Cost, Abilities, draw, search, recovery, acceleration and Special Energy. A key attack may also deserve more weight than its symbol count alone.
What the result includes
You get the whole number of basic Energy cards per type, the number of symbols behind each share and a link that keeps the scenario in your browser.
The total stays exactly the one you chose. No card choice, strategy, format legality or win rate is inferred.

Frequently asked questions
How many Energy cards should a Pokémon deck have?
There is no single right total for every deck. Choose the total you want to test, then use the tool to split it. Energy acceleration, search cards and your game plan can all change that total.
Should I count Colorless symbols?
No. A Colorless cost can be paid with any type of Energy. Only count the coloured symbols that require a specific type.
How do I split Energy between two types?
In proportion to the coloured symbols you need. For 12 Energy, 6 Fire symbols and 3 Water symbols give 8 Fire and 4 Water. Then adjust after test games.
Why does the result use whole numbers?
A deck cannot contain a fraction of a card. The tool gives out the whole shares first, then hands the remaining cards to the largest remainders.
Does it account for Special Energy?
No. It only splits basic Energy. Add or remove your Special Energy cards separately, based on their text and your format.
